Drawers

Drawer Pulls

If you constantly find your clothes and other items lying around your bedroom, it may be time to organize your dresser drawers. Dresser drawers are where most people store pieces of their wardrobes that don’t readily fit in their closets. This typically includes underwear, shirts, socks, pajamas, shorts, bathing suits, and other garments. When you start organizing your dresser drawers, remove everything from the drawers and lay the items on a bed or on the floor. Then take an inventory and determine what actually needs to be kept in the dresser. Group all the like items together, and figure out how many physical drawers your dresser has.

You should then determine where each group of like items will be stored. You’ll keep the items you use every day like socks and underwear in the drawer that’s the most convenient to access. To organize your dress drawers, you should insert one or two shoeboxes or small containers in your dresser drawers to keep your socks and underwear from spilling over onto other clothes in the drawer. You can buy these dividers fairly inexpensively.

If you are sharing dresser drawers with your spouse or partner, each person should have his or her own drawers. In order to maximize space, keep all the items laundered and folded neatly before placing them in drawers. Certain types of garments are best stored rolled as opposed to folded. In addition, your jewelry can be stored in dresser drawers. Be sure to keep your jewelry organized by placing the pieces into divided containers within the drawers.

You may also choose to keep your most frequently used jewelry on a jewelry holder or in a jewelry box. Instead of using an expensive jewelry box that may take up lots of room, consider using plastic ice cube trays or foam egg cartons to store your jewelry in dresser drawers. You’ll find that this system works great for earrings, rings, pins, bracelets, and necklaces, and you can get the job done for a couple bucks or less. You might also have a fishing tackle box with many small compartments that will work well as an alternative to an expensive jewelry box for your drawers. If you do a little planning and some organization, you can turn your dresser drawers into a set of pure organization bliss by making sure your clothes and other items are well sorted and easily at your disposal when you need them.
