Closet Organizers
When you’re getting organized, you should determine what each of your closets should be used for. You should first choose a closet or a room that needs organized. You should empty your closet and take an inventory of everything that’s in the closet. Lay out the items from your closet neatly on a nearby floor. Next, you should decide which items from your closets should be removed from your closet and which items should be stored somewhere else. You should eliminate anything that’s damaged, outdated, or doesn’t fit anymore.
Once you’ve thrown out the things from your closets that you no longer need, you’ll have to decide whether you’ll replace those items. When you’re buying new clothes, avoid purchasing things that you don’t need. A sale item is a bargain only if it’s in style, looks good on you, and goes with something you already own. Before going shopping, look at your wardrobe and identify the items you really need.

Look at what’s in your closets and determine the best ways to store these belongings. Ask yourself whether you should install additional shelves, rods, or drawers. Many basic closets are equipped with a single rod for hanging clothing. The height of most closets, however, allows for at least two rods, which in essence doubles the amount of space you can use to hang garments. You can also use specially designed hangers to increase the number of garments you can hang in a limited amount of space.

When you’re organizing your closets, you should keep your most-used items easily accessible. Sort your hanging items by type or category. Keep all your suits and jackets together and all your shirts together. You can also sort your clothes within each category in your closets, by organizing your clothes by color or fabric type. You can then divide your wardrobe into even more categories like shirts, pants, jackets, suits, and sweaters. When you’re deciding how much room you have for organizers in your closets, measure your empty closet and take the time to be as accurate as possible. When you measure your reach-in closets, determine the width of the closets by measuring the inside space between the two sidewalls, determine the height by measuring from the floor to the ceiling, and determine the depth by measuring the distance between the inside surface of the face wall and the back wall. To measure a walk-in closet, measure the width of each wall.
