Cabinet Lighting

Under Cabinet Lighting

When you’re building a display stand, it is not a difficult process to add cabinet lighting. You can build display stands that add a lot of display space to any room without adding a lot of weight to the décor. Roomy shelves can be perfect for flower vases, fine china, picture frames and other knick-knacks and collectibles. You can even add cabinet lighting to your display stand, if you want to further accent the piece.

A corner display stand is much more than a practical space-saver. The gentle arches on a display stand allow it to blend in with just about any contemporary decorating style. If you’re looking for furnishings that have a bit more formal appearance, you can substitute oak boards and oak plywood and apply a warm-toned stain. Cabinet lighting adds to any piece and can help turn your piece into something elegant.

When you are creating your display stand with cabinet lighting, you’ll want to choose a nice elegant lighting kit. You can buy these lighting kits at virtually any home improvement store. When you’re adding cabinet lighting to your display stand, with the stand upright, slip the lower face frame into position. The bottom rail should fit beneath the lowest shelf, and the top rail should fit beneath the center shelf. Center the face frame from side to side so any overhang is equal. Then you should clamp the face frame to the stand and attach it with screws through the stiles and into the edges of the shelves. Next, drive screws through the top of the shelves and into the end of each rail.

When you’re adding cabinet lighting to a display stand, you should add the lighting to a spot on the display stand that appears to be appropriate. Add the upper face frame and finish the stand by positioning the upper face frame so the bottoms of the stiles rest on the center shelf, and the styles overhang the corners of the top shelf by equal amounts.

Next, you should tack the face frame in place by driving one wood screw through each stile and into the front edge of the top shelf. Then drive screws up through the underside of the center shelf and into the bottom ends of the stiles. Cut the top to size and attach it to the tops of the standards and the top rail of the upper face frame with glue and screws. The back sides of the top should be flush with the outside faces of the standards.
